ABILENE, Texas — The first Cruise Night of the year is happening in Abilene this Saturday, April 9th. The spring version of Cruise Night is planned this weekend, with vehicles of all types, colors and sounds going east and west on North First Street. The loop goes from Sonic, 1734 North First, to the former Kmart lot, 4236 North First.

Get ready for an afternoon of classic cars, cruising, and good old family fun. Townsquare Media Abilene is partnering up with the Keepers Car Club of West Texas for an entire day of classic car fun. The 40th annual Cruise Night was a huge success, all because of our supporters and listeners. This year, and going forward, the spring Cruise Night will have a virtual car show that'll give cruisers a shot to win some cold, hard cash just for having a cool car and cruising 1st. As a matter of fact, my wife attended the event and had me take pictures of her with some vehicles similar to ones she once had the pleasure of driving. It was estimated that between two to four thousand people visited the car show in Clyde and/or the cruise in Abilene. Now, I've attended Cruise Night every year for 40 years and I will say it seemed as if there were more classic and muscle cars out on the street this year.

On October 14, 2023, Townsquare Abilene will be partnering with the Keepers Car Club of West Texas for an entire day of Cruise Night. After the cruise from 5-7 pm, be sure to take the whole family out to the Official Cruise Night After Party at Play Faire Park. Earlier in the day, we participated in the West Texas Keepers Car Club Car Show in Clyde. Over 150 cars, trucks and motorcycles were on display for all attendees to view and photograph. Due to COVID-19, there was not live music, a car show, or food vendors downtown. As it is, every chance I have to snap a pic of one of these sweet rides cruising up and down the streets of my hometown, I do. Then I sit there and try to remember which high school friend of mine drove one of these. I hope they bring back some great memories for you too. As you can see, we had an awesome turnout for Cruise Night, even on an Easter weekend. I always love these kinds of events because not only does it bring out some amazing rides, but the atmosphere is like a big old block party with everybody smiling from ear to ear. That said, we still had an amazing turnout for the cruise as hundreds of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even ATVs graced the streets of Abilene for two hours of cruising. Yes, Cruise Night was "lit" as the kids say these days. Our Spring Cruise Night was one for the books as hundreds of people shined up their classic rides to cruise the streets of Abilene.

The fall Cruise Night will be just like past events where we have a cruise followed by a car show, dance, live music, and more in Downtown Abilene. We'll be giving out more details about the fall cruise as we get closer to that event. Every Friday and Saturday night was like a right of passage. After cruising around Mack Eplen's, I'd park in the Kmart parking lot and watch all the cars and trucks drive up and down the streets of Abilene.

After the Keepers Car Club Car Show in Clyde, we'll head back to Abilene for the actual cruise up and down North 1st Street. Pre-registration cost is $20; day-of-show registration will be $25. Payment must be made with cash or a check written to Keepers Car Club.

In 2020 and 2021, the pandemic and other reasons played a role in the cancellation and rescheduling of Abilene's favorite annual event.
